The fact that Princess Diana was a complete style icon in the 1980s and 1990s is only one of the numerous reasons she will always be regarded as a royal favourite. As a princess of the people, she was adept at making her 'fits' appealing to a wide audience, and she even encouraged later generations to adopt a similar look. This influence was extremely remarkable given the lack of social media, fashion blogs, and texting at the time.

Princess Diana always made an impression with her outfit, whether she was attending a banquet, volunteering, or attending a sporting event. With a '80s and '90s flair, she donned everything from tailored ensembles (as a princess should) to luxury names like Versace and Dior. Imagine lots of polka dots, matched accessories, ruffled collars, and padded shoulders. She was practically among the first fashion influencers ever!

Though she's not with us today, Diana continues to inspire everyone from fashionistas to modern royalty with her timeless outfits. The next time you pair a sweatshirt with bike shorts or don a slinky black dress to show your ex what they're missing (ahem, her famous revenge dress), thank Princess Diana for laying the groundwork.

This black bodycon dress was famously called Diana’s “Revenge Dress” because she wore it to a Vanity Fair party the very same evening Charles had admitted publicly to cheating on her with Camilla Parker-Bowles.

She looked stunning in a teal ball gown and bejeweled headband at a ball during a royal tour of Australia.
